Can pot smoking save Atlantic City? Pol plans legalization

The proposal would make recreational marijuana legal within city limits, and tax it at 20 percent of "market value."

My opinion: Nothing can save Atlantic City. The last time I was there, the Borgata was the only place worth going to. The rest is an absolute shithole.

The Revel opened in 2012, and has already filed for bankruptcy twice. It cost $2.4 billion to build, and has already been sold twice for a combined $170 million.

All three casinos on the marina are nice. I've stayed at all three in the last couple years. Doubt I'd ever stay at one downtown, though. Hard pass on that. But Borgata, Harrah's, and the Nugget are pretty nice.

I enjoy Atlantic City and try to go once or twice a year. I've found some good restaurants and bars around town, and again, the marina area is pretty nice.

The Tropicana is great. If you're 90.

Or if you enjoy being around millions of people shoulder to shoulder. We did watch the US-Portugal World Cup game at the Irish Pub inside the Trop a couple years ago. Wasn't horrible.

But still. If you can't have a good time in AC, even today, that's more on you than the city.

Everything dies, baby; that's a fact. But maybe everything that dies someday comes back.

But I'm not betting on it.

The one time I went to Atlantic City was in the dead of night, I flew in one evening to DC to visit my sister and we drove up to AC. Got there at 2-3 a.m. and went to the Trop. Found a dice table with just one other guy, a loudmouth who was berating the dealers on every roll. Finally the pit boss said "that's it, after you seven-out, you're outta here." I whispered to my sis, "now watch him roll for a very long time." And darned if he didn't do just that. We turned $100 into about $900 and got right back on the road.

Now I can't go back because that the one gambling town where I can say I'm up for my career.
