The Baltimore Sun is looking for a reporter to cover the Baltimore Ravens. The ideal applicant will have shown an ability to break news, provide analysis and find stories beyond the obvious ones on a beat.

The reporter should be able to build sources inside and outside of the organization and leverage digital technology to tell stories in new, engaging ways. We want someone who stays informed on the minutaie of an NFL beat but can also zoom out and place news items into broader perspective.

    Duties

    - Create engaging Ravens and NFL content daily, including but not limited to: game coverage, hirings/firings/signings/cuts, enterprise/feature reporting, Ravens in the community events, off-the-field issues and thoughtful, well-sourced analysis

    - Break news, and react quickly to breaking news, getting information out on social media and on baltimoresun.com

    - Use social media to build a dedicated audience and drive that audience to The Baltimore Sun, both online and in print

    - Work as part of a team with another beat writer, a columnist and an editor to coordinate coverage and ensure we have all angles covered

    - Know how the competition covers the team, and take steps to ensure what we do is not only better, but significantly different

    - Work with a videographer to produce compelling video content, and also take own cell phone videos when necessary.

    - Communicate regularly with an editor to ensure stories are scheduled at the optimal times for web and print.

    Skills/Experience

    - Bachelor's degree in journalism or related subject

    - Advanced writing and storytelling chops

    - 3-5 years experience covering a beat

-Resourcefulness to find valuable sources when availability of key subjects is limited

-Understanding of what makes a topic newsworthy and/or buzzworthy

    - Instincts to shoot video or photos in the moments that call for visuals

    To apply

Email a cover letter, resume (as a PDF), references and five examples of your work to Mark Selig at mselig@baltsun.com. Within your five examples, please include…

    - A news story you broke
    - An enterprise/feature story
    - An example of unconventional thinking
    - Use of multimedia to tell or supplement a story

One of our Ravens reporters from last season, Jon Meoli, shifted to the Orioles beat.

I've been covering the Miami Dolphins for four seasons now but I'm looking to explore other options. This would be perfect for me. I will apply and send you an email

    Thanks
