Replay sucks

Watching the Nats game last night and Clint Robinson hits an obvious walk off homer run. But no...wait...wait...let's check the replay. Let's watch umpires put a headset on and review an obvious home run. Let's temper the excitement of a stadium of fans who just witnessed a walk off HR.

Too many replays. Too long to wait and not just baseball

NFL replays are deconstructed with greater scrutinity than the Zapruder film. And with seemingly more reverence. Getting the call right is important. Getting every call and non call perfect is boring.

In the end these are just games with no real importance.

 

The worst is the NBA.

You'd think that never before in history has a game been sullied by the ref calling the ball out off the wrong Guy's fingernail.

 

You're on crack; Replay is my all-time favorite sci-fi book (albeit, the list of ones I've read is short).



It's also known as one of the top books never made into a movie.

 

Replay is the worst in baseball, particularly on plays around the bag. I hate seeing a runner steal second only to get called out because his foot touches the front of the bag, bounces a hair above the base for a split second before coming back down on it while the shortstop has the glove on him. And losing the neighborhood rule on a double play is pretty absurd for a sport that made it illegal to run into the catcher at home to avoid injuries because one guy (Posey) got hurt.

Fair/foul, home run/in play are the only things that should be reviewed in baseball.

 

And there is already enough dead time in a baseball game to play a tennis match

And NFL replays are a godsend to advertisers. As if the game doesn't take forever with no action

TD --> Celebration-->review-->commercial --> commerical --> TD stands, belated celebration ---> PAT ---> commerical -->commercial --> Kickoff out of the end zone --> commercial ---> commercial ---> commerical ---> 1st and 10 ---> penalty delay of game

NCAA basketball, last 2 minutes they review the clock after every foul. It's basically watching free throw practice for 1/2 hour or watch the refs stand at the scorer's table.

If they want to make replays interesting
1. Mic up the refs/umps
2. Have on-line betting on the reversal

Hell, I've long said the same thing about no need to devise a football playoff system for college. It's college, not the pros, so why do we need to create some system that is supposed to determine the best? It was better when there was always debate about the final rankings. But yeah, money ultimately drives it, so we had the FBS and now the college playoff, which will of course soon be more than 4 teams.

 

Had not heard of the book, so I looked it up. Then saw this: "Ken Grimwood was working on a sequel to Replay when he died from a heart attack in 2003 at the age of 59."

There's a guy who died of irony.
