Putting the story on the page now. Said the same thing about her age. Would have guessed she was in her 70s.

Huffington lede has her as ELR's "beloved mother." Beloved by whom? Mrs. Barone was a loud, annoying, nosy bitch with mommy issues.

I loved "Raymond," but know it wasn't everyone's cup of tea.

    RIP.

Whatever you thought of the show, Roberts and Peter Boyle were the best part of it, nailing the roles of the extremely overbearing parents. Yes, Mrs. Barone was a loud, annoying, noisy bitch and that's what made her funny.

I was actually familiar with Roberts' work over the years and first saw her in the 1970s sitcom "Angie," (with Donna Pescow and a pre-"Airplane!" Robert Hays) where she played, yes, the title character's mom, although this one was more likeable than Mama Barone.

  6. While she was very good on "Raymond," I'll add she was pretty hilarious as the video-game-playing (and high) grandmother in "Grandma's Boy."

She played half the moms on the TGIF line-up. Glad she got a good run on ELR after a career of mostly one-offs.

Better overbearing mom, Raymond's or Costanza's?
