    Seemed kind of odd that about 10-15 years ago there was a big contraction of sporting goods stores, then all the sudden Sports Authority and Dicks started opening stores.

    Dick's expanded (he he) in the last decade by buying up chains like Galyon's.

    The same story said Sports Authority filed for bankruptcy and will close about a quarter of its stores.

    I also read recently that REI is suffering as well, namely because Target and WalMart have upped their cycling and outdoor game. Plus, InterWebs.

    And, of course, the rumor mill has Bass Pro to buy Cabela's.
