These stories have gotten some attention the last few days, but I haven't seen anything on here. If I am missing something obvious please let me know and I will delete this thread and link to the other.

Cities begin to challenge a bedrock of justice: They’re paying criminals not to kill

D.C. plans to pay its most violent residents not to kill. Here’s why it could fail.

It's about cities paying ex-cons not to kill people -- as much as $1,000 a month. Apparently D.C. is considering jumping on board.

You'd think nothing would surprise me anymore, but this one flabbergasts me.

Gobsmacked too. You'd think it would create a market for murder. How do you speculate that?

It's not quite as simple as paying killers not to kill. It seems to have been effective in Richmond.

Doesn't seem like the conventional policing system is doing a great job of keeping the bullets from flying.

So does that mean childbearing aged women having sex will get checks?

That's as silly as paying farmers not to grow food.

Maybe to sell this, we should pay farmers not to kill people and pay criminals not to grow food.

smallp doesn't destroy cars on purpose. It's more like wanton endangerment.

I'd like to short any market that pays people not to kill.
