I'm not Irish or Christian, so it's just "March 17."

Between this and the start of the tournament, it's a good day to do your drinking at home in Boston.

In the States, the night before Thanksgiving has been added to this list.

St. paddy's in a big city like NYC is great. Got to sneak away from work for a bit to catch the parade...of drunken high school and college kids. They banned booze on Metro North today, which had limited effect.

What's great about it? My office is on 48th St between Madison and Fifth -- a half a block from the stupid parade. My block was barricaded and I had to avoid my regular lunch pubs (Connolly's and Maggie's, both on 47th St.) because they were full of parade idiots. Maggie's gets so crowded they clear out the high tops for extra standing room. They had two bouncers at the door and prohibited people under 25 unless accompanied by an adult. I couldn't hear myself think with bass drums pounding most of the day. Then, not only did I have to ride a train home with drunk suburban kids but, as you mentioned, I couldn't get a drink for the ride because Metro-North didn't have drink carts so as not to exacerbate the drunk kid problem. St. Patrick's Day sucks.
