Amherst College, a small liberal arts college in Massachusetts, will no longer use the nickname Lord Jeffs because Lord Jeffrey Amherst, the founder of the college and after whom the town is named, wanted to eliminate Native Americans via the use of smallpox-infected blankets.

“It is unacceptable that a man with this legacy of racial hatred and planned genocide should represent our community,” the editorial board of the student newspaper in December wrote in an op-ed that urged the board of trustees to condemn the Lord Jeff mascot at their January meeting on Friday. “We need a mascot that all of the diverse members of this community can rally around — not one that bitterly divides us.”

We have reached an all-time low.

Nothing says Power To The People quite like the student government at a $63,000-a-year college.

If we can't commemorate attempted genocides, the terrorists have won.

Just checked the school calendar, and Amherst didn't have classes on Oct. 12, when it celebrated Columbus Day.

It's not insufferable until they demand first-year APs are granted tenure.
