CBS has a breaking news alert at the top. ESPN has a statement from the team on its ticker.

In a statement, team Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie said, We appreciate all the contributions that Chip Kelly made and wish him every success going forward." Coach Pat Shurmur will be interim head coach for Sundays game against the Giants. VP of player personnel Ed Marynowitz was also released.

Always curious why they can't wait until the offseason. There's only one game left. But I guess it helps get the jump on finding a new guy.

A little harder to win when everyone has a billionaire owner and everyone can buy players. He "revolutionized" the NFL, for one half.

You figure there will be some decent jobs opening up at the close of the season, so yeah, maybe they're getting ahead of things. That or the team was itching to get rid of him a while ago but couldn't justify it while they were contention for the division.

It would suit me, as long as he's paired with a real GM (which eliminates both himself and incumbent Ruston Webster.)

  12. Tom Donahue to step in as head of player personnel.

Think Kelly gets another HC job in the NFL right off the bat?
    I don't.
