JournalismJobs.com - Job Listing - Passionate sports editor wanted

    Date Posted October 20, 2015
    Industry Newspapers / Wires
    Location Newnan, Georgia
    Position Editor
    Specialty Sports/Outdoors
    Job Status Full-time
    Salary Not Specified
    Website http://www.times-herald.com

    Description:
The Newnan Times-Herald is seeking an individual who respects a good stadium hotdog, can explain the infield fly rule, does not confuse soccer and football, has actually seen a lacrosse game, hates cricket, understands golf is still a game and loves high school sports.

Also known as a sports editor, this individual will oversee another sports writer as well as several stringers. The primary coverage area includes three public high schools and two private schools. The job involves laying out sports pages, editing and writing

We are looking for someone who will take ownership of the sports pages and create a “wow” factor in terms of layout and story content. The successful candidate must be proficient in pagination with InDesign CC and Photoshop and understand what a deadline means.

Newnan is located about 30 minutes south of Atlanta in Coweta County right off Interstate 85. The Newnan Times-Herald just celebrated its 150th year of publication and is owned by a third-generation family. We publish five days a week and work days are Tuesday through Saturday nights.

If you don’t care how it’s always been done and know how and when to break the rules, please email a cover letter (this should say why you are the person for the job and may not include tired words/phrases like “ideal candidate,” “perfect fit,” “dream job,” “always wanted to …” etcetera), your resume, writing samples and pages you have laid out to Publisher John A. Winters at john@newnan.com.
