'Search for intelligent aliens near bizarre dimming star has begun'

I've been following this story for a few days. I've been trying to keep my hopes tempered, but I can't say it's not exciting. In short, scientists noticed that a faraway star had some odd dimming events several times over the past few years which could not have been caused by a planet crossing the star, the usual explanation. There's at least a remove possibility that long-hypothesized alien megastructures are causing the disturbance, and scientists at the Search for Extraterrestrial Life Institute are now specifically hunting for signals coming from that star system.

This is pretty cool. I've been following it as well and, though it's unlikely to reveal aliens, it's kind of fun to see how the process of SETI plays out. Also, like that article notes with the discovery of pulsars, even if it doesn't turn out to be aliens, the scientists may well make another exciting discovery of something we haven't predicted.

And I'd be lying if I didn't say that I'd really like to be alive the day that extraterrestrial intelligence is discovered.
