Anybody know the origin of Shecky?
Is it a real name? Is it Yiddish or Sephardic?
    What's it short for?

Shecky Greene's given name was Sheldon, if that means anything.

    That is probably my answer.

Thanks. We have twin boys on the way, and my wife insists that I consider some non-Gaelic options.

Please tell me you are not actually considering naming your child Shecky.

May I suggest Oliver and Cromwell.

Shecky and Slappy would be awesome names for twins and not just 1960s comedians, now that I think about it.

I think it's short for setting your kid up to get his ass kicked.
