As promised, here are the top games for Week 1. There are an interesting number of Power 5 teams (Oklahoma, Baylor, Penn State and Mississippi State among them) playing on the road against non-Power 5s.

(All times Eastern and all point spreads from ESPN’s college football odds page):

    Thursday

North Carolina (+2) vs. South Carolina, at Charlotte, 6 p.m., ESPN

Oklahoma State (-23.5) at Central Michigan, 7 p.m., ESPNU

Western Kentucky (-1) at Vanderbilt, 8 p.m., SEC Network (That’s right, a C-USA team is favored on the road against an SEC team).

    Michigan (+5.5) at Utah, 8:30 p.m., Fox Sports 1

    TCU (-14.5) at Minnesota, 9 p.m., ESPN

Colorado (-8) at Hawaii, 12:59 a.m., CBS Sports Network

    Friday

    Baylor (-35) at SMU, 7 p.m., ESPN

Michigan State (-18) at Western Michigan, 7 p.m., ESPNU

Washington (+11.5) at Boise State, 10:15 p.m., ESPN

    Saturday

Stanford (-11.5) at Northwestern, noon, ESPN

Louisville (+10.5) vs. Auburn, at Atlanta, 3:30 p.m., CBS

    Virginia (+17.5) at UCLA, 3:30 p.m., Fox

    BYU (+6) at Nebraska, 3:30 p.m., ABC

Penn State (-6.5) at Temple, 3:30 p.m., ESPN

Arizona State (+3) vs. Texas A&M, at Houston, 7 p.m., ESPN

Texas (+9.5) at Notre Dame, 7:30 p.m., NBC

Wisconsin (+10.5) vs. Alabama, at Dallas, 8 p.m., ABC

Eastern Washington (No line) at Oregon, 8 p.m., Pac-12 Network (the Vernon Adams Bowl)

Mississippi State (-23.5) at Southern Miss, 10 p.m., Fox Sports 1

    Sunday

Purdue (+7.5) at Marshall, 3 p.m., Fox Sports 1 (that's right, a Big Ten team is an underdog against a C-USA team)

    Monday

Ohio State (-11) at Virginia Tech, 8 p.m., ESPN

    Wisky/Alabama has me interested.
    10.5 seems like a bunch.
I'll take Wisky to cover that.

Especially since Alabama hasn't named a starting QB yet.

Alabama's defense should be outstanding — especially against the run — but a sloppy 20-14 type-game wouldn't shock me.

Also, is anyone else looking at that Auburn/Louisville line? If Auburn is going to be as good as my Auburn friends keep telling me, a two-touchdown win would be a let down.

Is my guy D'Shawn Hand going to play this year?

Yes, but he's not going to start. A'Shawn Robinson, Jarran Reed and Jonathan Allen are all future NFL draft picks.

That has actually become a big part of Mississippi State's scheduling philosophy. They haven't played a ton of Power 5 schools, but they've played on the road at a regional non-Power 5 opponent something like nine of the past 10 years. Off the top of my head, I know they've played or are scheduled to play at Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, Tulane, South Alabama, Memphis, Houston and Troy in recent memory.

The Wisconsin-Alabama game is in Arlington, sir, not Dallas.

I know, but I didn't want to have to put the Texas designater in there. Easier this way.

    What about Q'Shawn, P'Shawn, and L'Shawn?
