The experiment in relying on the kindness of strangers comes to an inglorious end:

Hitchhiking robot’s cross-country journey comes to tragic end in Philadelphia - The Washington Post

According to the Associated Press, the robot’s creators were sent a photo of their vandalized robot collapsed among trash and dead leaves on the Philadelphia pavement, its pool noodle arms ripped from its beer bucket torso, its plastic cake saver skull and robot brain nowhere in sight. They decided not to share the image because it might be upsetting to some viewers.

And, please, save your outrage, because I'm sure some early 20th-century author did something similar 80 years ago. And, because abortion. And Bill Clinton. :)

"There's a high concentration of New Jersey people on 2nd Street at night on a Saturday, so we'll blame it on them," [Philadelphia Police] Detective [Joe] Murray said.

The robot made it all the way across Canada no problem and doesn't make 300 miles in the good, ol' US of A.

I guess it was a mistake to tak the robot to a Phillies game.

Robot had traveled safely in Europe too.

It was actually left in a pretty nice part of town. Right by Penn's Landing. And the Liberty Bell.

So now the whole country will be internet shamed. Great. The Belgians already bought our breweries. Now they have the moral high ground, too.
