Anyone have an idea of what the "competitive salary" might be for this gig?

Wait a minute. So they're no longer coaches? Now they're strategists?

I'm interested but Gannett just scares me too much to accept a job unless it was within driving distance of where I already live

Coaches coach writers. Strategists strategize with writers on coverage, using metrics and analysis to determine direction of content.

Believe it or not, two different positions. :)

So I guess coaches don't strategize with writers and strategists don't coach writers, right?

Technically speaking, you're correct. When a coach wants to discuss strategy, he/she brings in the strategist and in some cases the audience analyst.

A strategist's job is to simply direct content coverage based purely on analytics. Technically, the only hands-on editing a strategist does is on watchdog projects.

Content coaches are supervised by strategists.

Again, all of this is technical jargon. As the disclaimer goes, Local restrictions may apply.

Seems like that's all something that an old-school sports editor used to do.

Company must be doing great these days to be able to pay two people to do the job that one used to do ...
