    USA Today Sports Media Group is seeking a NFL Editor who embodies a digital-first. 24/7 approach and has a strong editing background in sports media. The successful candidate will report to the Assistant Managing Editor of Sport Beats. The position is located at USA TODAY headquarters in McLean, Va.



    Responsibilities:

    • Develop distinct content plans for digital, print, special sections and magazines.
    • Conceive, assign and edit stories and work with writers to produce a polished product.
    • Work with writers on in-depth beat coverage that emphasizes breaking news and authoritative reporting.
    • Oversee daily programming of the site, ensuring quality control and timely posting of differentiating news and information, including video.
    • Budget stories for digital and print with emphasis on timeliness, relevance and enterprise.
    • Ability to collaborate with other editors (including those from other Gannett properties) to maximize network synergy and reach.
    • Be familiar with and committed to digital storytelling approaches that encourage and increase audience engagement.
    • Use analytic tools for insights on what readers are responding to and react accordingly.


    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field.
    • 7-10 years of editing experience with emphasis on covering sports on a national level.
    • Outstanding communication skills and experience working in a cross-functional team.
    • Demonstrated excellence in editing, writing, reporting, assigning and planning.
    • Understanding of HTML and related Web-authoring tools and software.
    • Familiarity with major Internet search engines and fluency in electronic newsgathering techniques, including quickly navigating the Internet.
