Last time I went to bed after 1 am was probably 12 years ago in Vegas at my 40th Bday getaway.

Was away on a golf tournament weekend with 15 other guys this weekend. Pretty competitive, but great group of guys. My first time with the group, got an invite through one buddy, never met any others. Great host, great venue, 3 villas side by side, with accommodations gratis, only had to pay for golf, food, transportation. Could talk to any of the other 15 and have a great time. An epic weekend based on my life to date.

Sat. rolls around, after two days, poker game is over and everyone is getting ready to hit the sack for the singles matches on Sun. One guy, a former NBA player, says "who wants to go to the club?" I played in his foursome the first day and he was a very humble and gracious guy. Only my buddy and I go out and it was a great adventure. Club, strip club (awful), then a casino. Only problem, got back at 5 am and had to wake up at 7:30. UGH. Needless to say, brutal start, lost 5 and 4. If I wanted to win, I should have gone to bed.

Don't think I'm staying awake that late ever again, even if I get to see how the other half lives.

Wait, so you actually golfed 14 holes, on two hours sleep, after a night of clubbing, in your early 50s?

I'd say that's a huge win for youthful vigor. Not evidence you're too old.

I'm with Creosote ... you spent the night out clubbing, made it around the golf course and lived to tell.

As long as you don't end up with any STDs, that's a win for you ... :D

Did you hit the course smelling of stripper?

Sounds like you should have spent that 2 hours on the practice range instead of wasting it sleeping.

I used to be a night owl. Still think of myself as one.

However, I find I have a hard time staying up past 11 on a work night and "sleeping in" on the weekend now means I can get up sometime after 8.

Used to be I could sleep in until noon effortlessly on weekends.

It's not a function of age. It's a function of adapting to a routine.

  8. QT, you'd make the cut with our Myrtle Beach group, we're all in mid-to-late 40s.
Golf w/drinks, drinks, power nap, hot tub w/drinks, dinner w/drinks, drinks, strip club til close ... repeat ...

And did you have any glitter on you?

You've got to get all the glitter off before you go home to the missus. Smell you can cure with a hefty application of Icy Hot, claiming you pulled something while playing golf.

    But glitter is pure evil.

I have been wearing reading glasses in front of the computer for the last week. I had bad eyes to begin with. I can't see distances without contact lenses or glasses. Now I need progressive lenses -- I am really struggling to see things that are close. It is making me feel old. Worse, the reading glasses magnify my eyes and make me look like Milton from Office Space.

QT, what was the recovery? I can still do the all-nighter or cover the event where I'm on my feet for 8 hours, but it will feel it for the next three days.

It takes the weekend, with a nap or two included, to feel right.

I am 45, and I got new glasses about a year ago.
I told my optometrist I was struggling to see up close while wearing my glasses. I've developed the habit of popping them up on top of my head when I'm reading things or working on this fairly close.
He said I don't need corrective lenses for seeing up close, but at my age my eyes can no longer compensate for my existing prescription - I'm near-sighted.

He said I could get transitional lenses (bifocals) or continue to pop my glasses up on top of my heads when I need to.

I don't consider myself vain, but I chose the latter for now.
