NFL Chuck Bednarik dies at age of 89 - ESPN

Was just thinking of Mr. Bednarik a couple of weeks ago. RIP.

 

Last two-way player in the NFL. That speaks for itself. Beloved in Philly, Steak, precisely because he was grumpy.

 

Grumpy, maybe, but I always respected Bednarik's candor.

 

I don't blame him for being grumpy. Not one bit.
One of the GOATs of the NFL.

 

Absolutely.

 

There's always this story about how, after Bednarik KOed Gifford, the doctors were working on Frank in the locker room when a cop had a heart attack and died. Frank's wife came down outside the locker room, and saw some men leaving the room, saying "We lost him." She thought Frank had died, until she found out it was the cop.

RIP Mr. Bednarik

 

RIP to a Philadelphia and football legend.

 

He looked like he clotheslined him on that. That would have been 15 yards, a suspension and a six-figure fine today.

 

Or maybe he just clubbed him across the chest with his arm.

 

Bednarik was a cornerstone to the tough early 60's Championship Eagles. He anchored and mattered tons to perhaps the toughest sports town through those years. Gruff ? The guy flew 30 combat missions over Germany and survived. Penn grad and played on the magic grass of Franklin Field. Bednarik might be the best, most beloved athlete through all of Philly's sports years. Love to the family.
