You can try stand-up paddling at Lake Zorinsky, run nationally recognized races and take a fitness class at the Henry Doorly Zoo, named the best in the world by TripAdvisor. You can break a sweat with a CrossFit Games athlete, bike the Wabash Trace Trail during the weekly Taco Ride and de-stress with thousands at Yoga Rocks the Park at Midtown Crossing.

And that’s not the half of it. Omaha has a thriving fitness scene, and the Omaha World-Herald is looking for a reporter to cover it.

The fitness reporter will write race previews, Q&As with health experts and local athletes, enterprise stories, features on inspirational community members, and daily content for livewellnebraska.com, the paper’s health website. The reporter will also post content to social media pages, manage the online event calendar and contribute to the LiveWell magazine, which is distributed with the Omaha World-Herald once a month. Occassionally, you'll assist our two medical reporters with breaking health news.

A successful candidate is an Internet-savvy self-starter who can write clean and engaging copy on deadline, generate fresh story ideas and network with local race directors, personal trainers and health industry experts. The ideal applicant stays up to speed on what’s happening in the fitness industry nationally and around town. Be eager to check out the latest fitness craze and blog about the experience.

Requirements: One to three years of reporting experience. Recent grads with strong internships/clips will be considered.

Deadline to apply: Email your resume, cover letter and three to five clips to livewellnebraska.com editor Katy Glover at katy.glover@owh.com by April 9.

More about us: The Omaha World-Herald serves a metropolitan area with nearly 1 million people. Its website boasts 15 million page views each month. Livewellnebraska.com houses the newspaper’s health, fitness, nutrition and sex and relationships content. The World-Herald covered the Ebola outbreak extensively as Omaha is home to the Nebraska Medical Center and its biocontainment unit. It’s also the metro’s go-to source for information on local races, including the Lincoln Marathon, Omaha Corporate Cup, Trek Up the Tower and Market to Market Relay.

More about Omaha: Omaha boasts a strong economy and low cost of living. You’ll find a thriving music scene and a hotspot for foodies. Like the outdoors? There’s several parks and hiking trails nearby. Sports junkies can get their fix at the College World Series or at the Olympic Swim Trials when they come to town. We’re also down the street from Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, home of the Nebraska Huskers.
