Police searched for a suspect Saturday morning after a Minneapolis police officer was shot around 5 a.m. during a burglary call on the north side of the city, according to police.

The officer was transported by his partner to North Memorial Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Police said that the two officers had just finished handling a burglary call on the 1100 block of 24th Avenue North in the Jordan neighborhood around 5 a.m. While at their car, one of the officers was shot.

Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau met with the officer and his family at the hospital. She said she believes the officer was targeted.

An area near 24th Av. and Fremont Av. is cordoned off.

Police dogs are seen searching nearby garages and alleys for the suspect. At least three dogs are searching an inner perimeter that spans several blocks for articles of clothing or anything else suspicious.

"There is little doubt that an officer was the intended target of this shooting and that this officer just happened to be the one who was there," Harteau said in a police release.

Let's think about the reason the suspect felt he had to do this.

    The revolution begins!

St. Petersburg, 1917. The Twin Cities, 2015. I can't even tell the difference.

So everytime a cop gets shot at, that makes it an assassination attempt?

    That seems a stretch.

    Did you read the story?

    Yes

Assassination would imply that the shooter targeted a specific person then attempted to kill them.

In this case it appears that the shooter targeted a cop, any cop, as someone who needed to die. It could have been a city cop, a sheriff's deputy or state trooper. So being targeted isn't the same as assassination.

    I'm sorry.

Should we just delete the thread, since it doesn't reach your threshold for giving a shit?

Yeah, it's not an assassination. It's an ambush murder of a random cop.

    Thread fail.

Yeah, this kind of non-story wouldn't even be worthy of a thread in some places.

A report on the aftermath of the shooting might be of interest.

"The show of support from the community for the police over the last couple days has been tremendous," said Minneapolis Police Inspector Michael Friestleben. "The community has been coming to the station. We're getting filled up with cards, flowers, snacks, to bring out to the wounded officer."
    and

"There's no fear from the officers, they don't feel like the community is against them. This is a single event," Friestleben said.
There will be a community gathering at the neighborhood mosque Friday night.
