He had half his life to go at Super Bowl I. A life well-lived.

RIP. Is there any NFL fan from the baby boomer generation that did not see or hear The NFL
through the lens and audio of Ed Sabol. Few of today realize what a huge roll Sabol and NFL
Films played in making The NFL the hugh organization it is today.

My favorite NFL piece - "The Autumn Wind is a Pirate"

Minor quibble: Steve Sabol wrote "The Autumn Wind." Ed deserves a ton of credit for being a visionary and a trailblazer, but I think even he would have agreed that Steve was the genius behind NFL Films.

There's an argument to be made that Ed Sabol is the most important individual in the NFL becoming the sports colossus it is today.

    Major Quibble ;):
Where did I write that Steve Sabol wrote the piece? Just said that it was my favorite slice of NFL Films.

Good thing they didn't have to pay royalties to those 17th-, 18th- and 19th-century composers whose music they used.

The "A Football Life" story on the Sabols on the NFL Network was tremendous. (I think that was the show. Might have been a 30 for 30).
