Guess The Ball Boy Didn't See Anything Afterall

I remember this article being debated back in the fall. Now the writers
credibility is being questioned. Sounds like the NYT did not do their
due diligence.

Did TV's Go-To Ball Boy Expert On Ballghazi Inflate His Credentials?

 

So this is the guy CNN and the New York Times were using as their expert "NFL insider"?

Christ, we truly live in the golden age for pathological bullshit artists.

 

At this risk of further giving my pals YankeeFan and Boom a TimesBoner, I'm curious if the same kind of confirmation bias that got Rolling Stone in a world of trouble hit the Times here. As much as I love the paper, they've been pretty gleeful about highlighting (and double underlining) the horrors of professional football in the last few years. I suspect the image of ball boys giving players ammonia tablets to shake them free of their concussion fogs would be the equivalent of guilt porn to a Times OpEd editor.

 

They sure have, and yep, you do have to wonder if that's what caused them to drop the ball here.

It's far beyond inexcusable not to check this guy's credentials before publishing that piece, especially considering how sensational some of his claims were. Would the Times have been so irresponsible if his story hadn't so neatly fit the theme of its other recent anti-NFL pieces?

 

Kester seems like a bit of a drama boy. I'm not sure I'd take everything he says at face value.

Football is inherently dangerous, as is boxing and UFC, where repeated hits to the head are central to the sport. If it all causes the NFL -- as wealthy and corrupt and abusive an institution as there is, and which answers to no one -- come crashing down, so much the better.
