Bots, robots, what are they good for?

    Could someone explain the robots that visit sj? Do they benefit the site in any way, like increasing page views?

    From what I think I know of them, I've heard that they webcrawl to gather information for search engines. But, they can get out of hand and slow down, bog down a site too.

    Anyway, I am curious about these bots, what they do, and what they are good for.

    Jeff? Any insight?

    So, are a lot of these bots spawned by XenForo to do sj things, or are they foreign bots collecting info, vacuuming up stuff?
