It starts Saturday, and there's a couple decent matchups.

Colorado State/Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl looks good, as the Rams get to play a Pac-12 team other than that inept squad from Boulder.

And of course, in the land of Famous Potatoes, Western Michigan tries to get its first bowl victory ever, facing Air Force on the blue turf. Cold and rainy weather predicted, so Air Force better squeeze that football as it runs through the option attack.

Full schedule for Saturday, Dec. 2o (EST)

New Orleans Bowl, Nevada vs. Louisiana-Lafayette, 11 a.m., ESPN
New Mexico Bowl, Utah St. vs. UTEP, 2:20 p.m., ESPN
Las Vegas Bowl, Colorado St. vs. Utah, 3:30 p.m., ABC
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, Air Force vs. Western Michigan, 5:45 p.m., ESPN
Camellia Bowl, South Alabama vs. Bowling Green, 9:15 p.m., ESPN

Not sure ... I know Blitz used to have an SportsJournalists.com group. Or was that for the NCAA tourney?

Damnit, a college football thread without lines? What is this, Communist China?

Last I saw, Nevada was a one-point favorite. If that's true, go all-in on Nevada.

I didn't put in a bet on the ULAF Nevada game but it finished 19-3. You're trying to tell me they only mustered 22 points?

There's going to be a story one day about the bowl fixes.

The most important bowl game has already been played -- The Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl. Whitewater again takes it to Mount Union 43-34, for the Warhawks' sixth Division III national title in eight years. Mount Union has lost six games in the last nine years, all to Whitewater in the championship game.

Whitewater coach now moves on to Buffalo, with six titles against six losses. Not too shabby.

Whitewater and Mount Union have also played each other nine of the last 10 years in the championship game. The one year they didn't meet was 2012, when Mount Union beat St. Thomas (Minn.) for the title and Whitewater didn't even make the playoffs.
Mount Union has also made it to the championship game in 16 of the past 18 years. Missed in 1999 and 2004.

Here's the matchups for the upcoming week ... and despite extensive threats from North Korea and/or chicken-hearted movie theater chains, I'll include the lines this time. :)

(all times Eastern, all games on ESPN)
    Monday, Dec. 22
Miami Beach Bowl, Memphis (-1.5) vs. BYU, 2 p.m.
    Tuesday, Dec. 23
Boca Raton Bowl, Marshall (-10) vs. Northern Illinois, 6 p.m.
Poinsettia Bowl, Navy (+2.5) at San Diego St., 9:30 p.m.
    Wednesday, Dec. 24
Bahamas Bowl, Western Kentucky (-3) vs. Central Michigan, noon
Hawaii Bowl, Rice (-2) vs. Fresno St., 8 p.m.
    Friday, Dec. 26
Heart of Dallas Bowl, Louisiana Tech (-6) vs. Illinois, 1 p.m.
Quick Lane Bowl, North Carolina (-3) vs. Rutgers, 4:30 p.m.
St. Petersburg Bowl, North Carolina St. (+2) at Central Florida, 8 p.m.

The Tuesday slate looks great to me ... two of the best Group of 5 teams squaring off, and a whole lot o' running attack in San Diego. Too bad I'll be swamped, cranking out pages at work. :(

In the Miami Beach Bowl, ESPN reports that BYU and Memphis each have a 50 percent chance of winning.
