A kid from Queens has made tens of millions of dollars — by trading stocks on his lunch breaks at Stuyvesant High School, New York magazine reports.

Mohammed Islam is only 17 and still months away from graduating — but worth a rumored $72 million. “The high eight figures,” is as specific as the shy and modest teen would get when asked his net worth.

Islam bought himself a BMW but doesn’t have a license to drive it. And he rented a Manhattan apartment, though his parents, immigrants from the Bengal region of South Asia, won’t let him move out of the house yet.

Show me his quarterly statements and then I'll believe it.

  3. Not really rich due to the Fed creating trillions of dollars outbid begin air. If he has any investments in euros, he's hosed, as that currency will collapse any day, now.

Somewhere in between UVA and this, there is a journalism profession. What a spectacular bunch of assholes we've become.

    Love New York Magazine's defense:

Pressler has defended the story on Twitter. She claimed she saw a bank statement with the eight figures and is comfortable with what's in the piece. She also noted the story appeared in New York Magazine's "Reasons to Love New York" issue and pointed out the magazine "is not a financial publication."

Rolling Stone should have gone with a variation of this: "We're comfortable with what's in the UVa story, but we'd also like to point out that we're a fucking Rock & Roll magazine."
